DEFTONES Guitarist 'Personally Opposed To Singles'
August 31, 2006Launch Radio Networks reports: The DEFTONES scored one of the most added songs at rock radio stations this week with "Hole in the Earth", the first single from the band's long-awaited new album, "Saturday Night Wrist". Despite the strong response to the track, guitarist Stephen Carpenter told Launch that he doesn't like the process of picking out one song from the rest of the album. "I'm personally opposed to singles at all," he said. "I could care less about making a single, or a follow-up single, or what's gonna be the hit. You know? I just can't stand all that stuff, man. I really can't stand it. I'm not good at hyping us up, like, hype, hype, hype, blah, blah, blah, so singles, I don't relate to them."
"Saturday Night Wrist" is scheduled to come out on Halloween, October 31. The disc will follow up the group's self-titled 2003 effort.
The group began working on the album with producer Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, before switching to Bob Ezrin and finally finishing with Terry Date, who's been the DEFTONES' regular producer since their debut.
Vocalist Chino Moreno recorded an album and toured with his other band, TEAM SLEEP, while the DEFTONES were making the new CD.
The DEFTONES are currently on the Family Values tour with KORN, STONE SOUR, 10 YEARS and others. The trek hits Holmdel, New Jersey tomorrow (Friday, September 1).
